Why God, why?

Habakkuk 1:12-13 (Week 39)

Habakkuk 1:12-13 NASB

“Are You not from time everlasting,
Lord, my God, my Holy One?
We will not die.
You, Lord, have appointed them to deliver judgment;
And You, O Rock, have destined them to punish.
13 Your eyes are too pure to look at evil,
And You cannot look at harm favorably.
Why do You look favorably
At those who deal treacherously?

Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up
Those more righteous than they?”

Whatever you devise against the Lord,
He will make a complete end of it.
Distress will not rise up twice.”

Remember God NOW

Ecclesiastes 12:1-3 (Week 37)

Ecclesiastes 12:1-3 NASB

“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years approach when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”; before the sun and the light, the moon and the stars are darkened, and clouds return after the rain; on the day that the watchmen of the house tremble, and strong men are bent over, the grinders stop working because they are few, and those who look through windows grow dim.”

Philippians 2:5-9 NASB

“Who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bondservant and being born in the likeness of men.”

Hebrews 6:1-2 NASB

“Therefore, leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward Godof instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and about the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment” (NASB).”

JONAH: To Forgive is Human!

When we rejoice in forgiving others, we are returning to the holy image of God, our Creator and Father.

In this lesson, God, through the reluctance of Jonah to forgive the Ninevites, teaches us some invaluable lessons on forgiveness.

Additional Notes: Throughout this lesson and others, I refer to Luke 6:31 as the moral code. It is the code that all human beings are born with, written on our spirits to guide us into doing the morally good things.

I also refer to people who live or strive to live by the law of Luke 6:31 as “good people.” I do this because, while no one can be absolutely good, or absolutely morally excellent, Jesus teaches that a person can be either good or evil (Matthew 5:45). He also teaches that a “good person” will do “good things” (Matthew 12:34-35).

Keep Your Vows

Jonah 2:7-10 (Week 35)

Jonah 2:7-10 NKJV

“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple. “Those who regard worthless idols
Forsake their own Mercy.
But I will sacrifice to You
With the voice of thanksgiving;
I will pay what I have vowed.
Salvation is of the Lord. 10 So the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.”
