The Christian “Code of Conduct” (audio)

“Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Phil 1:27 NASB).

This lesson is actually a few weeks into the series; however, I hope you will find these discussions helpful.

Christianity was born into a world dominated by the Greco-Roman code of conduct and the Jewish code of conduct. While there were some similarities, the code of conduct for Christians was also different. In Paul’s letters, he addresses different aspects of this code; from marriage to parenting, and from employee/ employer relationships to even how Christians should dress.

The Joy of Evangelism

“There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance” (Luke 15:7 NASB).

To be carried on the shoulders of Jesus, what a blessing!

Evangelism is the act of sharing or announcing the good news of salvation (Matt 28:18-20). There are different levels of evangelism: (a) announcing, (b) reproving and correcting false teachings about the gospel within the church and outside the church (2 Tim 2:14-26), (c) rejecting false teachings in words and in actions (Rom 16:17-18).

We share the gospel of Jesus, because today, no one can be saved without obeying the gospel (Acts 4:12). The Apostles and the early disciples shared the Gospel with the world, because they were commanded to, they desired to, and because there was a need (Matt 28:18-20, Acts 8:4).

1. Evangelism takes love – pray to develop more love for souls (John 3:16). Share the love of Jesus for souls. Be uncomfortable about sin.

2.Evangelism takes correct knowledge & baptism (Acts 18:24-28; 19:1-7):

3. Evangelism takes courage – pray for courage (Acts 4:29)

4. Evangelism takes leadership with experience and desire – take time to learn and practice to become a teacher & a leader (Acts 1:21-23, 1 Tim 2:1-2).  5. Evangelism can be through direct (Acts 2:14) and indirect (Acts 2:46-47) means, but it should always be intentional (Acts 8:4).

Controlled by Love

2 Corinthians 5:14-17 (Week 48)

2 Corinthians 5:14-17 NASB

“For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; 15 and He died for all, so that those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose on their behalf. 16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one by the flesh; even though we have known Christ by the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

The Faithful Prays

Luke 18:1-8 (Week 47)

Luke 18:1-8 NASB

“Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not become discouraged, saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect any person. Now there was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my opponent.’ For a while he was unwilling; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect any person, yet because this widow is bothering me, I will give her justice; otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’” And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge *said; now, will God not bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night, and will He delay long for them? I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

Zechariah 1:3-6 NASB

“Therefore, say to them, ‘This is what the Lord of armies says: “Return to Me,” declares the Lord of armies, “that I may return to you,” says the Lord of armies. Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, ‘This is what the Lord of armies says: “Return now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.”’ But they did not listen or pay attention to Me,” declares the Lord. “Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? But did My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, not overtake your fathers? Then they repented and said, ‘Just as the Lord of armies planned to do to us in accordance with our ways and our deeds, so He has dealt with us.’
